The Winter Gardens

This weekend I went up to see my family in Sheffield and while I was there I took a walk around the town centre. It's the first time in a few years that I have been around the centre and the changes made there are tremendous.

One of the most impressive things is the Winter Gardens: the blurb tells me that this is one of the largest temperate greenhouses to be built in the UK during the last 100 years and who am I to argue?

Outside of Sheffield train station

For years there wasn't too much to look at when you got off the train. These days there is a wonderful water display with a curved waterfall down one side and a stepped waterfall on the other.

This is one of the first things you see arriving from the station.

Note my old university in the background, a place where I spent many hours toiling hard into the night.

This is the waterfall, in the distance is the independent cinema.

Another view of the waterfall.

The Frog and Parrot

This place used to brew its own beer, I’m not sure if it still does. When I was a student in Sheffield we never really used this place but when we did it was always a good place to be.

This place used to be called “The Bombay”, years ago me and my mate, known as Hedgehog, used to go to the pub after work and end up in here. I think I had my first ever Indian meal in there.

Eddie's Porsche

One of my friends in Sheffield bought this last year. On Saturday I borrowed it for a couple of hours.

It is fantastic.
